Hello everybody. Super newbie here. I want in on Bitcoin. Downloaded blockchain app, don't really understand the app. Is there a better one? Also how do I change my old fashioned green backs to Bitcoin? Anyone have a quick explanation? That would be great! Any advice would be great!

[Draw #59] It’s almost time to see who our winner is, the draw awaits!

Here’s the part where we get one in the crowd.

TL;DR - This post is for the sole purpose of choosing a winner. If you commented in this [Drawing Thread], you are entered in the drawing and don't need to do anything else. By 16:00 UTC, the winner will be selected. The Bitcoin (BTC) blockchain will be used to pick this winner. This can be verified at any device running Python 3.5, and you do not need to own Bitcoin in order to participate.
Additionally, all information to replicate the Drawing at home is available on Dropbox and GitHub, scroll down for more information.
Importantly, this post WILL NOT BE EDITED in order to keep the integrity of the Drawing. To verify this, there will not be an asterisk during the time passed since its creation. The winner will be announced in a stickied comment.
DISCLAIMER: Some of the information may be unrevised, but procedures are the same as prior draws. Thank you.
Off Topic:
The [Discussion] Thread at /millionairemakersmeta is open. All comments are welcome there for any inquiries.
[Discussion for Fall and Winter 2020-2021]: https://old.reddit.com/millionairemakersmeta/comments/iw8mse/_/
Explanation!
The Bitcoin (BTC) blockchain will be used to choose a winner. Once the time listed has passed, there will be an active check to determine the blockchain's winning hash. Like before, this subreddit will wait for the 3rd Block after the time (being 16:00 UTC) to select the winner.
If a block is discovered by 15:59 UTC, it will not be counted towards the counter of three blocks. If it's discovered by 16:00:00 UTC, then it will decrease the counter. This can be checked by seeing the timestamp given to it by blockchain explorers.
You are able to see how this subreddit will verify the winner by checking the GitHub repository, which also includes a back-up plan in case of an emergency.
Standard Protocol:
This post will not be edited! This is to prevent tampering of the hash or files by any of the moderators. To prove this, look for the lack of an asterisk near the time since creation.
To verify if a hash for a file is that of Draw #59, upload the file of choice to a SHA-256 generator, and match it with its respective hash output. The result you receive should be the same as what is listed here.
If you are interested in doing this for yourself, download Python 3.5 or better and follow the path to the folder labeled: MM59
Status Reports:
I will be commenting on the progress of the drawing via the comments, so other users can keep track of the progress. These comments will be pinned at the top of the post and be distinguished. Most likely, after 1:00 PM ET, the pinned comment will be announcing the winner.
If you can run Python yourself and follow the instructions, you will be able to find the winner. Make sure the hash released from the blockchain and the total number of participants match with what is described below. In addition, thank you for your patience.

Some suggestions for crypto reading material.

https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf
I’m posting it because if you haven’t yet I think it’s important that everyone does. Save it, when you have time take a read. A lot of people jump into crypto only looking at charts, price and market cap. I think it’s important to understand the origins of it, not in a biblical sense like some people take it. Satoshi was a revolutionary thinker that changed the world forever. The philosophy behind crypto is subtly embedded in the bitcoin white paper and I get the sense that sometimes the true meaning behind crypto is forgotten, the philosophical value.
While we are on the topic the Ethereum white paper is too long and technical to be considered a must read. You can get the understanding by reading the introduction, bitcoin comparison section and the conclusion. I will post that as well for comparison.
https://ethereum.org/en/whitepape
If you’ve gotten through those and you’re an avid reader I have a few books I would recommend.
Bitcoin Billionaires was a very good book. Highly entertaining while also helpful to understand the story of Bitcoin. While told focused around the Winklevii who better to be the focus than the biggest whales in the game. Everything from Facebook, Mt Gox, parties, court rooms, prison and a success story for not only the Winklevoss twins but the story of the success of Bitcoin.
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/41433284-bitcoin-billionaires
The Infinite Machine is sort of the equivalent for Ethereum. It is all about the origin story of Ethereum from birth to boom including the known characters and some connections maybe unknown to some. I would actually suggest reading this instead of the white paper. Camila Russo does a great job breaking it down in a way that can be understood. I also follow her Defi podcast The Defiant.

Mastering Monero, opinions of the coin aside, is very much worth reading. You will have a better understanding of privacy as a whole, not just privacy of Monero. From banking system explanations to dark web usage, or lack thereof, is covered in the book. It’s written by Monero users for Monero users and non Monero users. The Bitcoin mentions in the book aren’t FUD but instead written factually. It’s an easy enough read and it’s also available free or by donation. I donated for it but the PDF isn’t hard to get to.

For the futurists, the dreamers and the hopefuls there is Blockchain 2025 written by Jared Tate. He speaks his mind and is honest as the sky is blue. He wrote the book not to promote DGB but moreso to discuss the role of blockchain beyond just cryptocurrency in the future. I’ve only just started it but so far it’s a good read.
https://blockchain2035.com/
Another one, not crypto related, is The Wolf Of Wall Street by Jordan Belfort. “People don’t buy stock; it gets sold to them. Let’s not dawdle in picking a winner, come in and see who it could be! [Draw #53]

Ladies and gentlemen, this marks the fastest time from the thread being locked to the following post getting posted!

[Discussion for Spring and Summer 2020]: https://reddit.com/millionairemakersmeta/comments/g3a53t/_/
If it's discovered by 16:00:00 UTC, then it will, simple. This can be checked by seeing the timestamp given to it by blockchain explorers.
You are able to see how this subreddit will verify the winner by checking the Dropbox folder, which also includes a back-up plan in case of an emergency.
Standard Protocol:
This post will not be edited! This is to prevent tampering of the hash or files by any of the moderators. To prove this, look for the lack of an asterisk near the time since creation.
To verify if a hash for a file is that of Draw #53, upload the file of choice to a SHA-256 generator, and match it with its respective hash output. The result you receive should be the same as what is listed here.
If you are interested in doing this for yourself, download Python 3.5 or better and follow the path to the folder labeled: MM53

[OWL WATCH] Waiting for "IOTA TIME" 14;

Disclaimer: This is my editing, so there could be some errors, misunderstandings or exaggerations.
Waiting for "IOTA TIME " (an era where IOTA defines nearly everything in terms of the block-chain world)

I wonder how many times an out of context 2 year old private DM has to be addressed. At the time IOTA was approaching stagnation due to the actions of primarily CFB**, thus since we both started Jinn together which lead to IOTA,** I tried repeatedly to talk sense into him. I.E. "If you are going to torpedo all progress, let's just sell it all and start from scratch, fuck it" It's a figure of speech, while trying to talk sense into someone who insists that 1 + 1 = 3.59 My tax records show when I last sold iotas. February of 2018. Now stop reading into private DMs, especially ones taken out of context and especially those leaked by someone who's proclaimed he is going to ruin IOTA and my life. You need to go back to school if you think there is anything to 'speculate' on there.

u/unsy we will release the condensed version of them once we want to. Just because you so desperately desire them for whatever reason doesn't make us do it faster. Being in this space for so fucking long, last thing I want is to attempt to act in good faith again and then be screwed over by those trying to misconstrue reality and spread lies. We've been at that for too long. Once they are fully ready, and we have them in a format we like, we will publish them.

Long field
You can track their iota address, and I can tell they didn't sell any iota tokens in last two months

HusQy
IOTA is like a large decentralized network cable that connects any number of nodes with each other and that enables data and values to be exchanged with one another, whereby the data is protected against manipulation and the value transactions against double spends. Thereon ...

... you can run any decentralized application (we call this layer) - e.g. a blockchain that stores certain data for as long as you want and limits the amount of data to be saved via fees like Bitcoin. Each of these uses inherit ...

... your security from the basic protocol and can specifically only save the data that is relevant for you (also decentralized). To say that IOTA is not a DLT is in principle not that wrong - it is a platform for DLTs and therefore much more powerful than all ...

... existing DLTs because it is much more flexible. For example, you can run Hashgraph in IOTA, or Bitcoin or whatever. And IOTA is the token that connects the entire ecosystem. This is of course "not yet" the case, but Chrysalis Part 2 is the first step.

HusQy
@blocktrainerperhaps this explanation will enable you to understand where the journey is going. If a decentralized data storage is required, then you can build it with IOTA and it then has exactly the same properties in terms of permanent storage as Bitcoin.

Block trainer
We can also get a little more technical. The way you describe it, it sounds like an interoperability layer ... something like that here, which then equates to a polkadot etc.
📷

HusQy
In principle yes, only that it doesn't connect Bitcoin and ETH but "IOTA Smart Contracts" with "IOTA Storage" etc. It is not there to connect other projects but to offer the same as other projects, only faster and cheaper.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bitcoin Coach
And in 5 years there will be a completely new project, which then claims to be better than IOTA. And then should all the infrastructure be thrown overboard and the partners simply change the DLT?

HusQy
This is how technology works. It makes no sense to run the Internet on the basis of 64k modems just because many people have one at home. The change does not take place overnight but creeping and if you look at the BTC Dominance you can see that too.

Ultimately, everything will switch to the best technology and we'll see which that is :)

Block trainer
The "best" must also be defined. What are the classes to master?

HusQy
All classes. If there is a technology that can represent even one aspect better, then it is not yet good enough. Blockchain, for example, is a "degenerate" DAG with only one reference. The goal is that IOTA can also use blockchains if the use case requires it.

HusQy
The future is not "either DAG or blockchain" but both seamlessly linked within the same ecosystem. IOTA smart contracts use a blockchain, for example, but a separate chain for each smart contract and the blockchain is within the tangle.

Block trainer
According to the new definition, they are no longer saved ... A doublespent could change the reference retrospectively.

HusQy
That's not quite true. The tangle itself contains all information for all eternity and you cannot remove any information. Once the data has reached a certain age, it is no longer stored by every node in the network. But you can still ...

... still prove what happened in the part of the tangle that was "forgotten" by the nodes after a certain time. Now there are two ways to keep this evidence: 1. You save the evidence personally and can present it at any time. 2. Man ...

... writes a plug-in for the node, which monitors the Tangle for information of a certain type and keeps a copy of all car purchase-related data forever (or for at least 30 years, for example). All dealerships could then install this plugin and ...

... jointly store this data decentrally in order to query the information if necessary. However, you would only selectively save the data that interests you. The evidence they produce can still be verified by any node on the network.

If the server of a car dealership fails, it can download the data again from one of the other dealerships. Quasi like an application-related private blockchain which is secured by the Tangle. It is also conceivable that there are service providers for this ...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HusQy
Data is only kept immutable. How do you intend to execute a token transaction over pure data? I'm simply sending the following two data transactions at the same time: 1. I'm sending $ 100 from address A to address B. 2. I'm sending $ 100 from address A to address C.

HusQy
In order to determine which transaction is successful / came first, you need consensus. Data transactions do not allow token transfer.

Block trainer
Why doesn't that allow token transfer? I can simply use it to sign my values. The question is about the meaning of the token. I can also sign that I have transferred € 10 for the petrol station. Or I transmit the proof via curled BTC ...

HusQy
Did I just describe you can publish two conflicting data transactions and no one knows which is the correct one: P

Block trainer
Unless you agree on a consensus. Time stamp + BTC (locked) in hash = value transmitted ... What else is the IOTA token for?

HusQy
Whether information is correct can only be seen in the context. Take a look at the difference between "data" and "information". For example, you can claim that you locked Bitcoin even though it didn't.

Block trainer
I may need a proof of this. See how, for example, BTC is unlocked in liquid or in the LN. The IOTA data layer is extremely similar to the principle of Lightning. Accordingly, the sending of tokens would be possible here, which means that I see the use case of the IOTA coin at risk

HusQy
Such a proof is impossible. The reason why this works with LN nodes is because LN nodes are Bitcoin nodes that know what is happening in the Bitcoin network and have "information" and not just "data": P What you are describing is technically impossible.

Block trainer
Data = information What can the LN not, what IOTA can sometimes?

HusQy
That's not rubbish. There is a huge difference between data and information, and inter-chain transactions are not possible because of that very difference. LN won't work - there are too many game theory problems: P

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dominik Schiener
There is more tech maturity, more adoption and more progress than ever. We are one of the only projects which gets funding from government grants and corporations. Stop the attention grabbing headlines and get your sources right.

Dominik Schiener
As an innovation leader in Europe, I certainly say we deserve to get grants. There is a below 7% success chance usually. And yes, everything is fully audited (by externals ofc), showing clearly how and that the money was used in achieving the milestones of the grant.

Found old (2012) wallet.dat file on old external drive - need help please!

Hi there - just wondering if there's an easy way to check an old wallet.dat file that I found from long ago. I know nothing about bitcoin, I don't use it for anything, but I think I may have mined it for a few days a long time ago and it would be nice to know if I have even 0.1 coins to my name.I have read numerous posts and articles telling me to "Download and sync the core" - my hard drive can't hold that much data - it's only a 256 SSD - how can I check my balance? I've read about "pruning" as well - would that work or do I need the whole blockchain on my hard drive to check?
It's all very confusing and I'd really appreciate a simple explanation. Thanks!

The Incentivization Mechanics

[This text constitues an update to the Whitepaper. For more, including infographics, check out https://gridnet.org/whitepape]
Now, let us give here a short-overview of the incentivization mechanics in regard to the Torrent-storage sub-system. The mechanics employ State-Less Blockchain channels, with a modified version of Token Pools. We have codenamed the modified data-structures ‘Multi-Dimensional Token Pools’.That is to support multiple concurrent peers during downloads (even hundreds of simultaneous peers being rewarded at a time, with millions of simultaneous transmissions worldwide). All of the mechanics described herein will be hidden and transparent to the user.
As far as user-involvement goes, each and every user will be able to create/deploy a Token-Pool by sacrificing a certain amount of cryptocurrency. This will be possible through the Decentralized Command-Line (takes a single command) but through the fancy-looking UI as well (a couple of clicks).
Let us say you sacrifice 1 GRIDNET Coin (1000000 GBUs) to create a single Multi-Dimensional Token-Pool. Recall that the Token-Pool represents an off-the-chain value store. When you do so, you specify the number of Dimensions (or ‘Banks’) to be available from within that Token-Pool and the value of a single Token/hash from within the Pool (values will be proposed automatically). Still, for the purposes of sound explanation let us deeper. If you specify 100 dimensions and the value of a single Token as 1 GBU, then the amount of tokens available within a single Bank will be equal to 1000000/100, thus with each Token worth precisely 1 GBU. Yes, each dimension is finite, with boundaries constantly verified. During data download the software which runs within the web-browser will be delivering small portions of the accumulated value to the ones who deliver file/video fragments (possible once it is being played).
As far as the user is concerned, if he is a client, he will need to register a Token-Pool and be automatically informed once it gets depleted. In case of a data-delivery node he/she will be constantly informed of the amounts of just received rewards/cryptocurrency. Once a threshold of received rewards is reached, the software will automatically cash-out received tokens for the on-the-chain Live currency. In case of invalid tokens/ malicious peers etc. these will be cut-off automatically.
During data-transmission/reception, the Token-Pool’s dimensions/banks will be chosen and switched between autonomously by the software (the GRIDNET-OS JavaScript context). During data-transmission, the data-delivery node, with each data-bundle (ex. 100KB) receives a Token (hash), dispatched by client, one generated from within a certain Token-Pool’s dimension/bank. Here, each hash represents part of the total value accumulated within the particular Token-Pool. Do note that rewarding data-delivery does happen off-the-chain during the entire data-transmission between points A and B. It is in awardee’s best intention to postpone cashing out of the accumulated rewards (which this time does involve the decentralized state-machine), the later the better, since doing so involves a fee.
📷
Figure 10: A Multi-Dimensional Token-Pool
Notice how efficient the mechanics are. Formulation of a Transit Pool (the data-structure which is to end-up within the VM at the end of data-transmission, which can actually cover for multiple data-transmission / files between A and B) involves mostly just a single hash, one revealed from the chosen Token Pool’s dimension/bank. Here, it is important to note that only a single awardee can be rewarded from a single Bank/Dimension at a time, before he/she decides to cash-out his/her accumulated reward. The most recent hash suffices to validate the entire sub-chain of a bigger hash-chain, represented by a Token Pool’s dimension. Moreover, storage of the Multi-Dimensional-Token Pool on-the-chain is even more efficient. The secret MasterSeedHash is all it takes to recover information in regards to every Dimension/Bank with its value known only to the owner (stored off-the-chain). In that respect (storage and information recovery) the data-structure is similar to HD-Wallet keys, known from the Bitcoin-realm.
During data-transmission, after receiving a Transmission Token it is possible , at any moment , for the rewardee to verify the current state of the on-the-chain-preserved Token-Pool and thus to check against a possible double-spend attempt by querying full-node for the Token-Pool to which the given Transmission Token corresponds to. If, the hash-value revealed turns out to overlap part of the hash-chain which is already known, that indicates a double-spend attempt and the data-delivery node can refuse further data-transmission.
Figure 11: Overview of the incentivized data-transmission mechanics.📷
Once the Provider’s software decides to cash-out tokens (as per user’s preferences) for live on-the-chain currency, it will autonomously formulate a #GridScript transaction with the embedded Transit Pool (encapsulating the most recently revealed hash from a particular dimension, from a particular token-pool).
Now, the full-node which receives such a transaction would extract and verify the Transit Pool against the current state of the Token Pool (which should by now be available at the chain at all times). If validated, the Provider is rewarded with the amount of Live-cryptocurrency which corresponds to the total value represented by the received Transmission-Tokens (after processing fees have been deducted).
Kindly do note that here, everything is presented as a high-level overview and additional case-specific technicalities are involved. For instance, we employ additional variations of the Transmission-Tokens, including their Authenticated-subtype, one which renders the mechanics resilient against a malicious full-node. For instance, one might observe that under the so-far described assumptions - of each hash uncovering a certain amount of value -then, without additional authentication this would render the mechanics susceptible to a malicious full-node which could claim the Token/hash as his, instead of node’s that performed data-deliveries. Things get even more complicated when we employ additional mechanics to cope with Sybil-nodes in case of routed data-transmission (Tunneling / IoT) . That very subject alone is described in our upcoming 30+ page long research paper.

Swipe is thrilled to announce that it has released a new “redefined” white paper under: Swipe Product Manual. The Swipe Product Manual was designed with simplicity in mind for easy and coherent descriptions of the Swipe ecosystem of products. White papers tend to be bulky, mixed with content that the average user will not digest and understand. The typical cryptocurrency buyer or person looking to get into cryptocurrency, are not too found of the technicals behind a protocol, but more how the protocol will work described in a way for a layman person. This is how Swipe believes in working towards mass adoption.
With this in mind, instead of filling our white papers with technical resources and explanations, we decided to take a different approach and go with a Product Manual style design. This will describe all of our current and future products that we have planned and the overall summary of each one. Technical descriptions and documentation will be made available, as required, per protocol as some will have API access for developers.
Please bare in mind that this is a working document and may be subject to improvements and/or changes.

DeFi is Cooling down, BW.io will launch hottest NFT Zone!

DeFi is Cooling down, BW.io will launch hottest NFT Zone!
With the left foot stepping on the right foot, the left hand plucking hair, while claiming “to the moon”, DeFi is cooling down?
“The first cup of milk tea in autumn” is for DeFi fans. Once a token was launched, the price plummeted. The financial events of the previous period gave people false hope that there would be another wave of bull market. On the contrary, joy becomes sorrow.
Many people ask, is there still going to be bull market?
But the token circle is never silent, because the market capital flow is too much!
With the DeFi heat dissipation, NFT quietly becomes the next hottest topic.
In my opinion, DeFi is not the only area that can generate huge returns, and NFT is likely to be the next big event in the blockchain world.
What is NFT?
The full name of NFT is non fungible token, which is usually translated into non-homogenous token. It first appeared in 2017 and is mainly used in games, artworks, domain names, collectibles and other fields.
Let’s take a more popular example.
Have you ever been caught playing video games and beaten by your parents when you were a child?
Are you skillful and powerful in the games and get cool equipment?
Have you ever seen collections in art galleries and museums, which amazed you but daunted you with their prices?
Let me tell you, these are not problems now. Thanks to the blockchain, you can do whatever you want in the NFT world.
When you look at the skyrocketing prize money of S10 champion, and you can only squander money in games under the coercion of Tencent, you can’t help but sigh at the desolation of life. Meanwhile, your girlfriend is scolding you for playing games and losing your ambition.
And the advent of the NFT era, you will be reborn! Friend, are you tired of the endless payment after the first charge of 6 yuan? Friend, are you a king in the game, but a loser in your life? Friend, are you afraid to see your admirer in the game because you have no money in real life? Don’t worry, don’t hesitate, NFT era is coming, with lowest price, and just logging in BW.io (coin net) NFT zone can change your destiny. From now on, you can stand on the frontier of the era. You can make a lot of money and be incredibly rich. You can live for another 500 years and will still be elegant, handsome and rich!
https://preview.redd.it/ikzr84ibrft51.jpg?width=830&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c33143346208bee2ec4624dbf6c6a00cfe6a4798
NFT is It is a kind of token which uses ERC-721 and ERC-1155 standards. Its biggest feature is that it has unique scarcity and can not be separated. At present, the existing landing scenes include artworks, collectibles, game props, bills and vouchers.
What is a NFT? First of all, we need to understand homogeneous token, which means the same kind of token that can be exchanged with each other.
For example, I have $100 BWB, which can be exchanged with $100 BWB in your hand. In essence, the token value of both parties is the same, and there is no difference. The only thing that changes is the transaction records on the chain.
NFT refers to the unique and irreplaceable digital assets, that is, each NFT is unique and provides different uses and values.
Further explanation, NFT can be a pair of silk stockings, a SSR card of Yinyangshi game, and a peripheral garage kit that others don’t care about, but you love very much.
Some old players in the circle must have heard of the encrypted cat on ETH, which is the earliest NFT token.
In a word, NFT can represent any asset, especially the extremely scarce one. In terms of “gold in chaotic times, antiques in prosperous times”, many people consider bitcoin as digital gold, and NFT can be understood as digital antique (digital collection).

https://preview.redd.it/pjo810afrft51.jpg?width=786&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bad381457ae7bd83d4c2d94a4cb5550414f90dc7
After two years of development, NFT token and various ecological applications based on NFT token have gradually begun to mature.
With the crazy rise of MEME, many people have doubts, will NFT be the next opportunity after the fever of DeFi?
Generally speaking, NFT infrastructure is still under construction, and there is no complete functional protocol stack and application platform. The speculative demand is also lack of value target, and the current user group and demand are still too small.
However, if you want to make a fortune in the token circle, you have to go ahead. When everyone sniffs a chance of gaining ten times or even a hundred times’ profit, there will be little chance.
BW.io (coin net) now brings you a chance to get rich first. You can see that the NFT zone has been launched on the homepage of its official website. You can also participate in the activities and have the opportunity to split up 10000 USDT!

https://preview.redd.it/u92qhafts6u51.png?width=1190&format=png&auto=webp&s=889fcf85973bc1502d7c133171f3d20639baad26
What is the future of NFT? Is it possible to unleash the energy of DeFi in this summer? There is no need to over-interpret this issue. What you and I can and should do is to pay attention to BW’s NFT zone as soon as possible. Every new token may be a good opportunity to make money.
Looking forward to the future, in addition to games, artworks, land, tickets and artworks, I expect that there will be more and more different NFT categories, and there will be a significant increase in market activities. A year later, we’ll look back and see what dramatic changes have taken place in the NFT ecosystem.Telegram: t.me/BW_support

TL;DR - This post is for the sole purpose of choosing a winner. If you commented in the [Drawing Thread], you are entered in the drawing and don't need to do anything else.

The [Discussion] Thread at /millionairemakersmeta is open. All comments are welcome there for any inquiries. (Currently, the discussion thread is also being used for #52. I will look to make a seasonal thread.)
[Discussion #51]: https://www.reddit.com/millionairemakersmeta/comments/f8g5fo/_/
To verify if a hash for a file is that of Draw #52, upload the file of choice to a SHA-256 generator, and match it with its respective hash output. The result you receive should be the same as what is listed here.
If you are interested in doing this for yourself, download Python 3.5 and follow the path to the folder labeled: MM52

Found old wallet.dat file from 2012

Thanks!

[ANN][ANDROID MINING][AIRDROP] NewEnglandcoin: Scrypt RandomSpike

New England
New England 6 States Songs: https://www.reddit.com/newengland/comments/er8wxd/new_england_6_states_songs/
NewEnglandcoin
Symbol: NENG
NewEnglandcoin is a clone of Bitcoin using scrypt as a proof-of-work algorithm with enhanced features to protect against 51% attack and decentralize on mining to allow diversified mining rigs across CPUs, GPUs, ASICs and Android phones.
Mining Algorithm: Scrypt with RandomSpike. RandomSpike is 3rd generation of Dynamic Difficulty (DynDiff) algorithm on top of scrypt.
1 minute block targets base difficulty reset: every 1440 blocks subsidy halves in 2.1m blocks (~ 2 to 4 years) 84,000,000,000 total maximum NENG 20000 NENG per block Pre-mine: 1% - reserved for dev fund ICO: None RPCPort: 6376 Port: 6377
NewEnglandcoin has dogecoin like supply at 84 billion maximum NENG. This huge supply insures that NENG is suitable for retail transactions and daily use. The inflation schedule of NengEnglandcoin is actually identical to that of Litecoin. Bitcoin and Litecoin are already proven to be great long term store of value. The Litecoin-like NENG inflation schedule will make NewEnglandcoin ideal for long term investment appreciation as the supply is limited and capped at a fixed number
Bitcoin Fork - Suitable for Home Hobbyists
NewEnglandcoin core wallet continues to maintain version tag of "Satoshi v0.8.7.5" because NewEnglandcoin is very much an exact clone of bitcoin plus some mining feature changes with DynDiff algorithm. NewEnglandcoin is very suitable as lite version of bitcoin for educational purpose on desktop mining, full node running and bitcoin programming using bitcoin-json APIs.
The NewEnglandcoin (NENG) mining algorithm original upgrade ideas were mainly designed for decentralization of mining rigs on scrypt, which is same algo as litecoin/dogecoin. The way it is going now is that NENG is very suitable for bitcoin/litecoin/dogecoin hobbyists who can not , will not spend huge money to run noisy ASIC/GPU mining equipments, but still want to mine NENG at home with quiet simple CPU/GPU or with a cheap ASIC like FutureBit Moonlander 2 USB or Apollo pod on solo mining setup to obtain very decent profitable results. NENG allows bitcoin litecoin hobbyists to experience full node running, solo mining, CPU/GPU/ASIC for a fun experience at home at cheap cost without breaking bank on equipment or electricity.

CPU Minable Coin Because of dynamic difficulty algorithm on top of scrypt, NewEnglandcoin is CPU Minable. Users can easily set up full node for mining at Home PC or Mac using our dedicated cheetah software.
Research on the first forked 50 blocks on v1.2.0 core confirmed that ASIC/GPU miners mined 66% of 50 blocks, CPU miners mined the remaining 34%.
NENG v1.4.0 release enabled CPU mining inside android phones.

Decentralization and Community Driven NewEnglandcoin is a decentralized coin just like bitcoin. There is no boss on NewEnglandcoin. Nobody nor the dev owns NENG.
We know a coin is worth nothing if there is no backing from community. Therefore, we as dev do not intend to make decision on this coin solely by ourselves. It is our expectation that NewEnglandcoin community will make majority of decisions on direction of this coin from now on. We as dev merely view our-self as coin creater and technical support of this coin while providing NENG a permanent home at ShorelineCrypto Exchange.

ASIC/GPU Mining Pools Warning to Big ASIC Miners Due to DynDiff Algo on top of Scrypt, solo mining is recommended for ASIC/GPU miners. Further more, even for mining pools, small mining pool will generate better performance than big NENG mining pool because of new algo v1.2.x post hard fork.
The set up configuration of NENG for scrypt pool mining is same as a typical normal scrypt coin. In other word, DynDiff on Scrypt algo is backward compatible with Scrypt algo. Because ASIC/GPU miners rely on CPU miners for smooth blockchain movement, checkout bottom of "Latest News" section for A WARNING to All ASIC miners before you decide to dump big ASIC hash rate into NENG mining.
(1) Original DynDiff Warning: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5027091.msg48324708#msg48324708 (2) New Warning on RandomSpike Spike difficulty (244k) introduced in RandomSpike served as roadblocks to instant mining and provide security against 51% attack risk. However, this spike difficulty like a roadblock that makes big ASIC mining less profitable. In case of spike block to be mined, the spike difficulty immediately serve as base difficulty, which will block GPU/ASIC miners effectively and leave CPU cheetah solo miners dominating mining almost 100% until next base difficulty reset.

We had some difficulties, but it's not stopping us! The winner will be picked tonight, I'll explain what happened in the post! [Draw #51]

Sorry for being so late, thanks for waiting.

TL;DR - This post is for the sole purpose of choosing a winner. If you commented in the [Drawing Thread], you are entered in the drawing and don't need to do anything else. By 22:00 UTC, the winner will be selected. The Bitcoin (BTC) blockchain will be used to pick this winner. This can be verified at any device running Python 3.8, and you do not need to own Bitcoin in order to participate.
The Problem
Alright, so three things happened:
First, I overslept. I fell asleep at midnight, and woke up around 8 o'clock. When I noticed this, I gathered the comments at 9 AM ET, which is pretty close to the deadline.
Second, I haven't used a PC, Mac, or any other reasonable piece of desktop hardware to run a Python script in years. If it's not through Repl.it on my iPad, it's through Pydroid 3 on my LG V30. I couldn't figure out a way to efficiently run the scripts on Repl.it on my iPad, and as for my phone, it didn't want to parse through the authors. Also, the software I used is Python 3.7, while leroy627 stated it required the use of Python 3.8.
In other words, I wasn't able to fully follow through the process of running the scripts due to hardware restraints and lack of the necessary software. I received this error when running getAuthors.py, but I'm not having it stop us.
Third, it's just a culmination of real-life conflicts. I honestly hate having to delay the [Draw] post, but otherwise, I hope everything is fine.
What does this mean for you all?
What happens is that the process of picking the winner is delayed, but not for much longer than what is standard. Also, potential winners will be manually disqualified after an unsuccessful vetting of their account, rather than having it be done automatically, if it comes to that.
The Solution
The comments have already been collected, we're just going to go through the process that has been established in [Draw #49] and [Draw #39], just with the software usable that's on GitHub (save for getAuthors.py and removeInvalids.py, unless if a fix is possible). The winner will be picked on 22:00 UTC (epoch timestamp: 1582495200) today.
DISCLAIMER: Some of the information may be unrevised, but procedures are the same as prior draws. Thank you.
Off Topic:
The [Discussion] Thread at /millionairemakersmeta is open. All comments are welcome there for any inquiries.
[Discussion #51]: https://www.reddit.com/millionairemakersmeta/comments/f8g5fo/_/
Explanation!
The Bitcoin (BTC) blockchain will be used to choose a winner. Once the time listed has passed, there will be an active check to determine the blockchain's winning hash. Like before, this subreddit will wait for the 3rd Block after the time (being 22:00 UTC) to select the winner.
If a block is discovered by 21:59 UTC, it will not be counted towards the counter of three blocks. If it's discovered by 22:00:00 UTC, then it will, simple.
To verify if a hash for a file is that of Draw #51, upload the file of choice to a SHA-256 generator, and match it with its respective hash output. The result you receive should be the same as what is listed here.
If you are interested in doing this for yourself, download Python 3.8 and follow the path to the text file here: MM51\OfficialMM51IDs.txt
Status Reports:
I will be commenting on the progress of the drawing via the comments, so other users can keep track of the progress. These comments will be pinned at the top of the post and be distinguished. Most likely, after 6:00 PM ET, the pinned comment will be announcing the winner.
If you can run Python yourself and follow the instructions, you should also be able to find the winner. Make sure the hash released from the blockchain and the total number of participants match with what is described below. In addition, thank you for your patience.

TL;DR - This post is for the sole purpose of choosing a winner. If you commented in the [Drawing Thread], you are entered in the drawing and don't need to do anything else. By 16:00 UTC, the winner will be selected. The Bitcoin (BTC) blockchain will be used to pick this winner. This can be verified at any device running Python 3.7, and you do not need to own Bitcoin in order to participate.
Additionally, all information to replicate the Drawing at home is available on Dropbox, scroll down for more information.
Importantly, this post WILL NOT BE EDITED in order to keep the integrity of the Drawing. To verify this, there will not be an asterisk near the time passed since its creation.
[Discussion #50]: https://old.reddit.com/millionairemakersmeta/comments/eqxure/happy_january_heres_the_post_for_all_your_50/?
Quick Update:
February, there will be changes on how the [Draw] here is going to run. I’ll announce more information when the time comes, but for now, if any programmers are interested in what’s happening, please visit the GitHub repository (hopefully my vocabulary is accurate). People are welcome to make contributions at their leisure!

If it's discovered by 16:00 UTC, then it will, simple. This can be checked by seeing the timestamp given to it by blockchain explorers.
You are able to see how this subreddit will verify the winner by checking the Dropbox folder, which also includes a back-up plan in case of an emergency.
Awareness for Fairness:
This post will not be edited! This is to prevent tampering of the hash or files by any of the moderators. To prove this, look for the lack of an asterisk near the time since creation.
To verify if a hash for a file is that of Draw #47, remove the first two lines, and upload the file to a SHA-256 generator, or upload one of the three trial runs. The output you receive should be the same as what is listed here.
If you are interested in doing this for yourself, download Python 3 and follow the path to the text file here: MM50\Drawing\OfficialMM50IDs.txt
Status Reports:
I will be commenting on the progress of the drawing via the comments, so other users can keep track of the progress. These comments will be pinned at the top of the post and be distinguished. Most likely, after 2:00 PM ET, the pinned comment will be announcing the winner.
If you can run Python yourself and follow the instructions, you should also be able to find the winner. Make sure the hash released from the blockchain and the total number of participants match with what is described below.
I will add, after 12:30 PM ET, I will be temporarily unavailable, and the hash could be released by then. Please be patient, and thank you.

Fun Fact: This is the closest a Millionaire Makers drawing thread will get to Christmas Eve! Comment to enter, and let’s make someone’s Christmas while we still can! [Drawing Thread #37]

OBLIGATORY EDIT: Thanks for the Silv'a, kind and generous stranger. For your generosity, have a video of Silver, from the hit video-game, Sonic the Hedgehog 2006, detailing the glorious benefits silver has on the Reddit culture! Thank you. (I hope you liked the joke.)

Santa Claus is coming! …and apparently it’s a 100,000 people in a red trench coat.

Edit: There are three deleted comments. The drill is to run the code again at 3:00 UTC, with a trial run before and after.
Quick Announcement:
On December 28, 2018, one week after this drawing, I will conduct a survey to help determine this subreddit’s direction. Additionally, the moderation team will unveil a new Discord server at the same time for our subscribers to discuss the subreddit and the drawing. Here are some questions you can expect (updated):
  • What day of the month would you like the /MillionaireMakers drawing to be held?
  • Should the code be further streamlined to acquire comment IDs at a faster and just pace? (Context: There's new code that can be used to prevent further cases of cheating, but it also changes the process.)
  • What is the best cryptocurrency blockchain to choose the winner from?
  • Should the [Drawing Thread] post's format be revamped in the future?
  • Should there be monthly or seasonal announcements the Monday of the [Drawing Thread]'s week?
If you would like to see something specific change over here at /MillionaireMakers, please click here! Your comments will help determine any additional questions the moderation team should ask the subscribers.
TL;DR: Leave a comment on this thread. A random user will be chosen, and everyone donates a dollar to make a millionaire. You are welcome to spread this thread via upvoting, telling friends and family, and sharing on social media! If you'd like to be reminded to donate to the winner by RemindMeBot, click here!
What is this, anyway?
Three years ago, a Redditor posted an idea in /Showerthoughts that speculated the fact, if a million people picked a certain Redditor and all donated just $1, they would have the power to make someone a millionaire.
This subreddit is an embodiment of that showerthought, and the monthly drawings are the attempts to make it happen.
We need your help to keep this running, which amounts to only $1 a month to make someone's day. In the long term, that’s $120 every decade, which is a much more affordable price than other expenses. How does it work? Below, you will find an explanation on entering, rules to keep in mind, the selection, and other important things to note.
How to enter:
  • REQUIRED: Leave only one (1) top level comment in reply to this thread! Replying to other comments will not count. It is highly recommended to comment "RemindMe! 3 days Donation for /millionairemakers", which will remind you via PM to donate.
Important Rules:
  • Only ONE top level comment per person (replies and subsequent-level comments aren't included), but feel free to reply to other comments. Making duplicate top level comments may result in exclusion from entering. Go to me to ensure you don't accidentally double comment.
  • If, by any chance, you do double comment, delete any extra duplicates ASAP, ideally before the thread is locked in 24 hours, as any chosen draws found to violate this will not be eligible to win, and will be banned from the subreddit.
  • Your account must be older than 30 days with some amount of activity. Throwaway accounts with very minimal activity will also not be eligible. This is to prevent multiple entries from the same person.
How will the winner be picked and how can you donate?
  • After 24 hours, this thread will close, and the method of selection will begin.
  • While attempts to make the selection method similar to 2017’s have been performed, it still varies from the original. For an example from a prior drawing, see [Draw #36]. For archival purposes, please click here for the original selection method.
  • Method's TL;DR: Your number is assigned by sorting the comments by old, so the first commenter will be 1, and the list of comments will be publicly released. The subreddit then waits for a randomly generated block (a string of numbers) from Bitcoin's blockchain, after a preselected date and time, and calculates the winner using a formula described in the posts mentioned above.
  • Comment IDs are downloaded at 2:00 UTC, three hours following the thread being locked. There will be a trial run prior to the time listed, one at the time listed, and one trial run thirty minutes after. If it is shown that the deletion of comments has occurred between any of the trial runs, or technical difficulties, the retrieval of the comments will be delayed by an hour, following the same procedures. For [Drawing Thread #37], this has occurred, and retrieval of comments will be delayed to 3:00 UTC.
  • While not necessary, to determine if you are on the list, please go to your comment and save it. The comment ID is what gets recorded and selected, which looks like this: e3yxpj4.
  • The user who created the winning comment will be informed of their luck and will provide any information necessary for their chosen payment methods (mods will help set this up if needed).
  • The generous Reddit community donates to this lucky person, hopefully making some worthy soul a millionaire! A donation table will be stickied to the winner’s post, giving users the freedom in how they donate.
  • The lucky Redditor follows up with a thank you within the next days, revealing to the community exactly how much was raised and thanking their generosity.
Reminders
  • Take the time you have available now to setup your PayPal, Square Cash, and Google Wallet account, and/or cryptocurrency wallets. (Note: Some services may not be available depending on where you reside.)
  • To buy any cryptocurrencies, you may use Coinbase for purchases using your bank account.
  • To store cryptocurrencies, there are many accessible wallets, and if you win, you will be guided on which ones to download. For Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash, it’s recommended to use the Electrum and Electron Cash wallet for Mac, Linux, and PC.
  • Please try your best to donate a $1, no matter who wins. Every single dollar, cent, anything really counts, so please take the effort to remember and go through with it.
  • If you want to be reminded to donate, please comment "RemindMe! 3 days Donation for /millionairemakers".
  • Spread the word! The more people who participate, the better this gets for everyone! There has been a correlation between this subreddit making it in /all and an increase in donations.
  • Try to cross-post to relevant subs, and upvote. There is a correlation between reaching /all and the amount of donations for the winner. (Please don't spam other subs though. We're not trying to make any enemies here.)
  • If you are under 18, please talk to your parents to get their consent to participate and use their help to setup a PayPal account.
MOST IMPORTANTLY
Remember, this is about generosity, making history, and coming together to make someone's life better. It takes three minutes to donate a bit to the winner, whether you're well off and want to donate a couple bucks, or going through tough times and can only donate a few pennies. Every cent counts.
Note about legality: This is NOT a lottery. You don't have to pay to enter. No prizes are given away directly by the moderators of this subreddit (the moderators will never even touch your donations; this is done voluntarily). As for gift taxes, according to the IRS they're generally paid by the donor, and any donations under $14,000 is not taxable.
If a lone $1 can get you a Dollar Tree-worthy present, imagine the possibilities with $1,000,000. You can go invite your family to a Disney World vacation, invite friends without hesitation, or put up Christmas decorations!
One million dollars can be enough to make someone’s Christmas. Spread the word: have your friends and family comment, post the link to your friendly-neighborhood social media network, and share it to anyone interested.
LET'S GIVE THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING!
A Christmas delight,
With people dear, near, and cheer.
The winner’s tonight!

How to Explain Bitcoin: 3 Tips to Have Better Bitcoin Conversations

BTC Friends,
Let’s be honest, Bitcoin is confusing. Not to you (you are on this / after all), but to the people who have no idea what it is. Trying to explain Bitcoin is even harder. I’m sure we’ve all had those long, complicated, drawn-out conversations which leave people more confused than when it started.
To aid its adoption WE HAVE TO GET BETTER AT EXPLAINING WHAT BITCOIN IS.
Here are a few tips that should, hopefully, help you manage a simple and easy to understand discussion about Bitcoin.
Before we get to that, a few things to remember:
Bitcoin is a fundamental change from what most people believe. An explanation about Bitcoin shouldn’t be about “being right” or “winning the argument.” Instead, it should be about helping someone explore a new idea and begin to understand that there are actually different alternatives to the only “money” they’ve ever known.
Bitcoin is complicated. It’s important to remember that this is as much of an emotion transformation for someone as it is a logical one. A CONFUSED MIND ALWAYS SAYS NO. If you leave a person confused or frustrated about what Bitcoin is, they are more likely to build up a resistance to it and become close-minded because “it’s just too complicated.”
Adoption is a marathon, not a sprint. Don’t feel the need to word vomit all of your intense 1337 cypto-knowledge in a single conversation. Slow and steady. Like a good story-teller, keep them wanting more.
Now, some tips to consider:
1. Start with ‘WHAT is Bitcoin?,’ not ‘WHY is Bitcoin?’
A fundamental mistake that people make is to try to justify WHY something exists before even explaining WHAT something is. Your explanations need to act as a building blocks of knowledge which means you have to have a very clear, very easily understood, fundamental premise:
Bitcoin is…:
Digital coins that exist on the internet that you can spend and save just like the paper money in your wallet.
An alternative form of money than what you are given by your local government.
That's it. That's Bitcoin. While I’m sure we can, and probably will, argue about what that base, fundamental definition is, it’s important to start with WHAT, not WHY.
While hyperinflation, store of value, scarcity, the Federal Reserve, and how the printing of fiat devalues currency are all important, it does not answer the question of WHAT is Bitcoin. If you start with WHY, you are skipping a major building block in the mind of the listener and are on your way to creating confusion. And remember, a confused mind always says no!
Here is an example. (Now, don’t go full-internet on me. I’m not degrading this person or this video THANK YOU PERSON FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO. This video is awesome! I only bring it up because it is a recent video that got some attention. It also demonstrates this point.)
When asked to explain Bitcoin, here is the opening line:
“The FED…is out of control with printing money…”
This is a ‘WHY is Bitcoin’ response. Already, the listener is probably thinking, ‘what the heck does the FED have to do with anything? I just wanted to know what Bitcoin was…’ and you may just lose your listener right there.
Furthermore, this video never actually says “Bitcoin IS…” While there is an implied comparison to gold, there is never a fundamental definition of WHAT Bitcoin is.
Start with a clear, concise definition of WHAT Bitcoin is before moving on to WHY Bitcoin is.
2. Let Them Lead / Gauge Their Interest / Know When To Stop
When explaining any topic to someone who doesn’t understand it, there is a very strong temptation to TELL everything you know. This is human nature. We are proud of what we know. We want to display knowledge and proficiency. We must, however, understand that it is counter-productive to the learning process. Imagine that certain math teacher going over that certain math problem. They explain it. They are enthusiastic about it. They write it on the chalkboard. Yet your eyes glaze over. It’s too much too fast. You are just waiting until the end when they finally tell you the answer. All logic and reasoning and understanding is gone. This is similar.
Instead of telling them everything you know, LET THEM ASK! Allowing your listener to ASK demonstrates two things: an understanding of the last thing you said and, more importantly, interest! Ultimately, that’s what we want and need; their interest.
Believe me, just like that little kid asking, ‘why, why, why…?’ They will give you every opportunity to share a little bit more, and a little bit more.
For example:
Bitcoiner – “Bitcoin are digital coins that exist on the internet that you can spend and save just like the paper money in your wallet.”
(STOP TALKING AND LEAVE SPACE FOR THEM TO ASK!!!)
Noob – “Oh…ok…well…why do we need that? What's wrong with the money I have now?”
Bitcoiner – “Well, there is a risk that, over time, the money that you keep in your wallet or bank account will actually be worth less and be able to buy less stuff.”
(STOP TALKING AND LEAVE SPACE FOR THEM TO ASK!!!)
Noob – “Wait, what do you mean?”
And we are now on our way to a discussion about these messy and intense concepts of inflation vs deflation, printing of fiat currency, fractional reserve lending, etc. And through it all, LET THEM LEAD.
Now this is the tough part. If their eyes glaze over, YOU HAVE TO STOP! When the questions stop, YOU HAVE TO STOP! The last thing you want to do is ramble on once they’ve stopped listening. Instead, ASK them a question:
I’m sorry, did you not understand something I said?”
“Did I answer your question?”
“Is this interesting to you?”
By doing this, you will give them an opportunity to ASK you another question: “…back up…what did you mean when you said ‘store of value’?”
Or maybe even make a comment: “…wow…this stuff is pretty complicated…”
In either case, this actually helps keep the conversation going. Just back up, explain it again, keeping in mind your base concepts and definitions, and see if you can talk them past where they got stuck.
Maybe they shut you down entirely: “you know what, this is crazy, it can’t be true, let’s change the subject…” To which the ONLY correct response is, “Ok!” (we’ll get to this later).
Keep in mind that letting your listener lead will allow you to carry the conversation much further than you trying to push it along on your own.
3. Know Your Role / A Little at a Time / Don’t Overcorrect
So, what’s the end goal? Is it to have them whip out their phone, download an exchange, and make their first Bitcoin purchase right then and there?! No, of course not.
The role of these conversations is to LEAVE THEM WANTING MORE. Your goal should be to spark interest and curiosity. If after talking with you they end up on The Google or The YouTube looking for more information, then you’ve done your part!
Movies and TV condition us to want the big payoff at the end: the parade, the teary embrace, the triumphant symphony. That is not real life. Really, the best ending to a Bitcoin conversation might just be your listener making an audible, but clearly deeply contemplative, “…huh…”. You’ve done your job. You’ve got them noodling something they have never noodled before.
Even once you understand Bitcoin, there is still an entirely different conversation about what the technology is, how it works, and how people interact with it. And let’s be honest, it’s complex and confusing. Exchanges, blockchain, forks, difficulty adjustments, miners, cold storage… More complicated ideas. More jargon. Make sure you throttle yourself back and explain just A LITTLE AT A TIME. It’s ok to have one conversation about the fundamentals of Bitcoin and then an entirely different conversation about blockchain technology or how people acquire BTC or the difference between storing Bitcoin on an exchange versus a cold wallet. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking you have to tackle all of this at once.
While all this is happening, BE CAREFUL NOT TO OVERCORRECT. People know what they know, right? And what people know is always correct, right?? Be sensitive. If your listener makes a comment that isn’t true or is off track, don’t scold them or forcefully correct them. If your listener feels attacked or threatened, conflict will arise, and once that happens, their minds will be completely shut off. No one listens during an argument. Don’t attack. Explain.
For example:
Noob – “Well, the USD is backed by gold, so that will prevent it from ever devaluing!”
Bitcoiner – “You know, it’s pretty interesting, a lot of people think the same thing. The truth is that while the USD was backed by gold for a long period of time, it isn’t anymore. You see, back in 1971…”
Keep it simple, factual, and non-confrontational.
Going back to our example from before, even if your listener shuts you down entirely, THAT’S OK! They have now experienced a Bitcoin conversation that will percolate around in their brain. And perhaps next time they hear the word Bitcoin, whether on the news or on the internet, they’ll think back to your conversation and what you shared with them. Hopefully you didn’t over-press and their memory of your conversation isn't a negative one which leaves them feeling negative about Bitcoin: “Bitcoin is stupid and people who believe in Bitcoin are arrogant and rude.”
Finally, ENCOURAGE THEM TO DO THEIR OWN RESEARCH. The journey doesn’t start and end with you. You are simply a stepping stone along their path. Know that you are playing a part in their story; you are not the main character.
Adoption of Bitcoin will occur over a long period of time. The conversations we have with our friends and family will create the buzz, attention, and understanding that is needed, but please be mindful that you are doing it in a helpful and productive way that leaves people wanting to know more.
Oh, and step 4: Stack Sats and HODL!
